Art and Interior design by Phyllis Lapham

Exterior space design and restoration, Mexico, by Phyllis Lapham of Lapham Line

in Saint Louis, consultant Phyllis Lapham has been active in the fields of art and design for over thirty-five years. The founder of Lapham Line, she divides her time between Dallas and Paris, where she oversees a variety of projects for her European and North American clientele. Examples of her work have been profiled in House & Garden, Town & Country, Home & Garden, L’Officiel, Figaro, Bon Appétit, Vogue International, and Vogue Living.

Phyllis Lapham is a graduate of Wellesley College, where she obtained a B.A. in art history. Thereafter she continued her studies at the Sorbonne and the École du Louvre. She gained further expertise in the industry while living in Paris for an additional twelve years.

A connoisseur’s eye for antiques.
Home & Garden

An experienced interior designer formerly based in California for twenty-five years, Phyllis Lapham made her first forays into the dealer world when purchasing antiques for a client back in the early 1970s. Demonstrating what Home & Garden would later call a “connoisseur’s eye for antiques,” she later opened her own shop, Phyllis Lapham, Ltd. Antiques, in Carmel, California, upon her return to the United States. In 1985, she relocated the shop to Melrose Place in Los Angeles, where it remained a staple in the design community for another ten years.

“Her style goes from exotic Oriental
to the decorative European.”

Phyllis Lapham’s eclectic global aesthetic –which embraces four centuries of European and American design, Eastern artistic traditions, and other styles– represents a common thread throughout her design projects. Over the past three decades, she has designed modern furniture in California; created custom porcelains in Limoges; and overseen residential projects in Mexico, New York, Los Angeles, and Paris. Many of these endeavors were documented in contemporary publications, including a design project for the Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris.

Phyllis Lapham now offers her services to the international community through Lapham Line. Among her many affiliations are the American Society of Interior Designers; the Dallas Institute for the Humanities; the French-American Museum of Blérancourt; and the Maison de l’Amerique Latine in Paris. She is also a former foreign correspondent for Antiques West.
